Hi, my name is Nathan Vass Viney and I am a cartoonist, writer and Creative Practitioner living in Western Australia.

I began drawing comics at an early age, creating my own characters and perfecting 'newspaper strip' style punchlines.

I became intrigued by page to screen adaptations and 2D animation. This led me to study Moving Image and Animation at the Arts University Plymouth (UK).

As a 2D animator, I gained online success with multiple Doctor Who parody animations in the early days of YouTube and worked 2 series for a BBC Children's programme titled, Little Howard's Big QuestionYou will also find a short animated segment of mine included in an official Blur music video called I Broadcast.

In 2019, I released my first self-published comic book, Tomothy and the Time Travel Shoes. In 2020, I began submitting a weekly comic strip called Walpole Kids to a local newspaper. Walpole Kids then went on to appear in multiple Great Southern Newspapers. With 2 comic books self-published, I was approached by ABC Radio for an interview and offered a presentation spot at the brilliant Perth Comic Arts Festival to talk about my comic's origins. I was later asked to perform a live reading for PCAF, and another for the Perth Writers Weekend.

In 2021, 2022 and 2023, I ran successful comic making workshops for children in Walpole and Albany. Following this, I designed a Litter Picking Guidebook featuring the Walpole Kids comic characters. This was in association with Keep Australia Beautiful and the Walpole CRC

In 2022, I produced a 19 minute documentary starring the Walpole Kids characters titled: Meet the Artists. The film showcased a selection of local creatives, exploring their art and inspirations. Children from the Walpole Primary School even offered their voices to the four animated characters. The film was screened at the Walpole Community Hall and Cinefest Albany (twice).

In 2023, I was asked to produce the art for the Denmark Festival of Voice poster and began work writing a play called, Duncan's Art Room. This is currently at submission stage.

My comics have appeared in two anthologies: It was Different for Him was a comic reaction to the COVID-19 lock-downs and featured in the West Coast Comic Anthology published by Neighbourhood Press in 2021. In 2024, I produced a full-page newspaper-style comic on the subject of AI called Apple & Biscuit. This strip was printed in TALE TOWN, a comic journal for PCAF

On the side, I dabble in music and lyrics, game videos, music videos and live action short films.

I share a home in Walpole, a small regional town, with my amazing partner Jasmine and our two boys, Quentin and Fernley.
